Something came to my mind the other day whilst watching a documentary here in UK on Colin Barnes. For those of you that are in the know about UK athletes in the spriting discipline will prolly have heard of him. In any case, this doc was about researching into the probabilities of what our genetic make-up has on our given skills and performance. With Colin Barnes, it was to identify if his genetic makeup was a factor to his ability to perfom like he did in the discipline of sprinting.
After watching the whole documentary to the end, a thought came to mind in line with what had earlier-on transpired in the sporting media world here in the UK. They'd been following the trial of Dwain Chambers. An athlete who'd failed to get an over-turn on an earlier ruling banning him from taking part in these current olympics in China.
Now, as I'd started off earlier in this thread, a thought arose. What if (and believe me this may not be an if anymore!) a person's genetic makeup was to be tampered with and the genetic code identified in persons that are highly skilled in given sports was inserted into their gene system. As a result that person then being able to excell in a field which originally wasn't their norm, are we going to see a drive by the IOC or ther regulatory bodies globally fight this?
